A Glimpse into the Future

What will happen this year with the NBA is something that nobody knows for sure, but I predict that things will return to normal in a matter of weeks. It will still be a very awkward season and definitely one that is much shorter than it should be, but at least those who love basketball will not have to wait until 2012. The reason things went this far, is that the conflict is not new and for the last couple of years the players and the league have been fighting for some abstract concepts.

Money makes the world go round, but as far as the NBA is concerned it can also cause is to slow down to a screeching halt. For a couple of millions more each year, the players said that they are ready to go all the way, but their prediction that the league will back off, proved to be false. The NBA counterattacked and what followed was a string of debates and meetings that led to nowhere and the one who suffers is of course the fan who is deprived of his favorite show.

The reason I predict things will return to normal is that a lot of money is being lost, and both parties are suffering. The players are not getting any younger, and they can’t afford to waste years waiting for the rivals to crumble, while playing in Europe will mean that they would have to settle for less than the league is willing to offer. The latter complain about the fact that the players are too greedy and ask for too much from a system that is almost bankrupt. My prediction is that the conflict will die out of its own volition, and they will reach an agreement very soon.
