Can Makeup Really Make You Beautiful?

Girls as young as six year old try on makeup simply because they see their mothers all done, and they want to be just like their moms. They want to grow up fast just so they can also be beautiful, put on that smoky cheeks and red lips. No wonder the makeup industry is such a lucrative business, able to afford the talent fees of top Hollywood stars to endorse them. An average girl will probably consume makeup for at least three decades. That’s a real sustainable business these makeup giants have.

makeupIf mothers knew how toxic these makeup can be, they’d probably never let their daughters touch them, and will stay away from them as well. Makeups contain ingredients that are known to cause birth defects, hormonal imbalance and even cancer.

That’s a pretty stiff price to pay for beauty. But all is not lost. More and more makeup companies are becoming socially responsible, ensuring that their products contain no harmful chemicals. Some of these noteworthy companies are Burt’s Bees, Avalon Organics and Kiss My Face. There is a pledge called the Compact for Safe Cosmetics that aim to ensure makeup will be free from harmful chemicals, therefore, reducing the risk of diseases related to cosmetics.

Be a smart consumer and demand to know if your favorite manufacturer has indeed tested their products for toxicity. You definitely have the right to know just exactly what goes on in your skin. Don’t be fooled by the flashy advertisements they have, after all, it’s what inside that counts.

  1. For kids it’s a no-no for me. They can imitate their mom by playing it out but we passed that stage. Putting make up on special events is necessary to enhance more of the already acquired beauty. I also don’t buy expensive make-up magahi ra gyud siya kay dugay kaayo magamit hehe.
