Can Text Messages Replace Love Letters?

We all know it, and it’s undeniable. It is so easy to send text messages to somebody like “Take care” or “I love you” anytime of the day, post on his Facebook wall how much you care for him, tweet how much you miss him. However, is this really our idea of romance?

A text in the wee hours of the night from somebody you like telling you he’s thinking about you is definitely something that will make you smile – for the whole day. I bet! But getting a simple love note in the morning from this same guy will make you swoon even more. Amazingly, research shows that still majority of women and even men, still prefer the more traditional love letter over email.

text message over love lettersEmails and text messages are often misinterpreted, sometimes even the cause of many misunderstandings, because they are impersonal, and with the abbreviated languages used in these short messages, even the actual meaning is obscured. But the convenience of this technology-based messaging cannot be denied, and should not be ignored, either. As it is always the case, there needs to be a balance between the two, and you will be in the best position to know which method to use at any point in time.

If it’s a particularly nice date, a simple text to thank him and to tell him to be careful driving home is a nice touch. A love letter delivered to his office the next day will certainly overdo it. But if it’s your boyfriend, and you are celebrating something, a short letter will be grand. IMAO, of course.

  3. Yes, nothing beats a love letter to convey what is in our hearts. Text messages and emails can just be the icing on the cake. But we cannot do away with these modern means of communication and its facility to reply immediately to the message sent. I will never trade a single love letter for a hundred text or email messages. Thanks for the post. God bless you always.
