You are aware of what you should do. You know the reason that such thing should be done. You also know the procedures it takes to accomplish the task. However, there seems to be just an issue – the urge to get moving isn’t just there.
You are not alone in that problem. It points towards acute procrastination, or you are even stunned into paralysis. Whichever one it is, the issue of concern is that the work you need to do is still looking at you and increasing in volume with each passing day.
Don’t fret, there’s good news for you! All you need to motivate yourself into action is to develop 3 major habits;
1. Cutting Down Your Task
Cut down your tasks and objectives to smaller bits; this way, you can move into action easily and faster. Also, it would help you fight ‘the-work-is-too-much’ feeling, which is bound to show up. For instance, if you have a project to publish a book, segment the processes involved and start taking them one after the other – you can start with the book’s proposal.
Afterwards, get agents to look at the proposal. This first part is the macro part of the book project. Subsequently, you would continue with the micro aspect which includes writing the overview, author’s biography, etc. Then, embark on research to get references. Continue with each bit until you have a full book ready to be published.
Cutting down tasks into smaller chunks makes them do-able and motivate you to move into action.
2. Reward Yourself for Each Bit of the Task Completed
The reward here is really nothing big, but it’s quite effective in motivating you to move into the next stage. Compliment yourself and take credit for each segment of the task you get accomplished, it doesn’t matter how small the task may appear. You must not wait until the entire project is completed.
3. Plan Your Time
Don’t work without a time-plan, or else you would be dragged back to the deadly disease – procrastination! Assign specific time, a time-range within which each segment of the task must be accomplished, thus the entire project.
