Recent times have made the term “cougar” very popular. Cougars are older women who are still able to hook up with younger men. It may be positively viewed, in the sense that it defies the connotation of ageing. It means that women of age are still hot enough to compete with younger girls for the lust and attention of younger dudes.
Courtney Cox even has a hit TV series built on this theme of older women partnering up with younger men. Some ladies, however, will not like this term, as it connotes a prey-victim relationship. Because women are in a sense, in a position of power, it somehow gives the impression that they are taking advantage of the vulnerability of younger men.
And this is precisely what Kim Catrall, that oh so sophisticated, oh so glam, oh so fab Samantha Jones from Sex and the City fame, objects to. Just like her famous character, Kim Catrall is not bound by the traditions of marriage, and happily so. She refuses to succumb to the pressure of equating desirability with being married. She is single, fierce, and loving it.
In the past, women who are unmarried are oftentimes tagged as having something lacking, whether appearance, skills, appeal, intelligence or anything in between. Kim Catrall has definitely defied this convention and forced the world to accept that some bombshells who are intelligent, successful, queen of the world, refuse to be tied down by the rigors of tradition and convention. Like Samantha would say when talking to her longtime lover, “I do love you, Smith, but I love me more”. Well said, Kim!

Oh lalala, now I knew what is cougar means!! I was watching the Real Housewives of Miami last night, and this cougar word came out but don’t have any idea what was it. And I so agree I think Kim is a Queen of all the Lioness ^_^ . I like her character in Sex and the city ^_^

That’s something new to me, the term cougar. I think it’s the kind of relationship of Vilma Santos and Ralph Recto and Kris Aquino and James Yap before.
