Politics Don’t Excite Me

Some people are crazy over politics, while some are just interested. They say that I should take more interest in it, after all, it is directly affecting me. To begin with, I am a tax-payer, so I should be vigilant of where my taxes go. But I am a simple person, and as long as my basic needs are met. I can’t complain. Perhaps the exact term is that I don’t want to complain. I have seen so many things in my lifetime that I have come to believe that it is not with the government that my future lies, but in me.

Perhaps it’s because I am easily upset by the inefficiencies I see with some of our politicians that’s why you can say I am a bit disheartened. Like you, I passionately campaigned for the people I believed in, only to be betrayed by these very people once they are in power.

They have such glorious visions when not in office, and once there, they seem to have lost their steam, their sparkle, until they just become one of the many politicians we see on the news. Everytime I see them traveling for a leisurely family getaway, I cringe on the inside, thinking there must be some taxpayer’s money paying for that luxury cruise.

But the reality of it is that I am most disheartened when these politicians enact laws that do not really do much for the people. Sometimes I think, these people have a lot of time on their hands to debate about petty things. But who said life is fair? So I will just go on with my life and try to be a good person.
