Skin Art: It’s All About the Needles

A lot of people go through getting a tattoo for different reasons. Most do it for very symbolic reasons, while others will do it for the aesthetic motives. Whatever reasons there are, it cannot be denied that tattoo as an art form is recently enjoying renewed popularity, it has even inspired several reality shows like LA Ink and Miami Ink.

tattooWhile both these shows have chosen to highlight the ink as part of the tattoo process, it should be noted that no tattoo will get done without the very point that transfers the ink from the bottle to the skin, and leaves it there permanently. That is, the very important needle. Needles are so essential that they are regulated in most states.

Each needle should only be used once, and thrown away in a proper disposal immediately after. Not at the end of the business day, as this presents a possibility of reuse, but immediately after using them. Reputable tattoo artists and centers will follow this regulation like a religion. Using needles for more than one person may cause infection, which will result to illnesses. They should also be sterilized before usage.

Make sure to check the sanitation practices of your favorite inking station before proceeding to have some marks on your skin. Tattoos are permanent, and so will be the damage caused by unsanitary needles. Of course, there is no similar regulation for the pain the needle brings, and this one you’ll have to address on your own. But the end result of a tattoo, when done right, is worth every millimeter of pain.

  1. The Bible expressly prohibits tattoos and body piercings for they desecrate the sanctity of the human body which is a creation of God. I myself do not go for tattoos either for male or female, more so for female. Thanks for the post. God bless you always.

  2. I also don’t like tattoos but I admire to those people who have it but not on me. Some people think it’s addicting and it might be. It’s just too gross if the tattoos covered the whole body, don’t you think. And you are right it’s all in the needle. How do they know if the needle is sterilized? It’s scary if these needle can cause hiv or any kind of dreaded disease. Sabi nga nila nasa huli ang pagsisisi!!
